Sea Kayak
« on: March 24, 2010, 01:08:14 PM »
Well, I decided to go for a new P&H Scorpio, which I should be collecting from Bournemouth Canoes on Saturday.

So, my old Dagger Atlantis Sea Kayak will soon be up for sale. I am planning to put it on ebay at the weekend, but if anyone were interested, let me know. It would be a cheap intro sea kayak with built in rudder. Not especially fast but a lot faster than white water boats. It is quite stable for a sea kayak.

Yes - desparate to try it out. I will be taking my kit down with me on Saturday. Coming? Are you planning to do the Avon trip on Sunday, or could you cope with a sea trip?

Weather favours Saturday, if going to B'mouth canoes first, probably want to look at either old harryish, ringstead/lulworth, my spider senses tell me its your turn to disorganise a trip. Kevin could try out your boat, Dave are you working Sat?
If I'm OK I may also try a Sunday bandit run on the Avon, Alderbury - Fordingbridge should suit, however that would depend on my shoulder.

Orangey redy brown colour. Not yellow.

I would hope to get to Bournemouth Canoes at 10.00hrs which is when they open. This would mean that we would be a bit later than normal on the water.

I have no idea about tides as my Tide Atlas is at home in Wiltshire and I am currently in Devon. Would Sandbanks to Old Harry work getting on the water about 11.00hrs?

After careful consideration, haven't a clue. However either option isn't ideal & its a spring, so go for either Sandbanks or Lake Pier (time to adjust & familiarise on flat water, then head for old harry, if scary race, take the chicken shute, turn round when tired, sound disorganised enough?

Looking at tide times, water should be empting out of Poole harbour until 13:50, then it'll slowly fill up. We can pick up your boat, launch 10:30 ish, splash around till tired, return after 13:50, simples?
I may give Sunday a miss, sea will be ruff, Avon soggy, It may be time to earn some smartie points.  :D

Gordon,

HWPortsmouth = 08.46am

Tide turns 5 hrs after high water, therefore 13.45 hrs.

Sandbanks to Swanage 2 hrs.

So

09.00ish   Leave Amesbury
10.00ish   Arrive Bournemouth Canoes
10.45ish   Leave BC £999 poorer.
11.00ish   Arrive Sandbanks
11.30ish   On water
13.30ish   Swanage lunch
14.00ish   Leave Swanage
16.00ish  Sandbanks.

How about that?

Well done Mark,

My Scorpio turns out to have holes in it, and I am returning it on Good Friday to swap it for another (hopefully without holes in it!).

Gordon - do you fancy another sea trip on Good Friday?

I have not put my old boat on ebay, as I am thinking that I might keep it for a while in case anybody else wants to join us for a sea trip.

p.s. - I am currently sat at a desk in Devonport Dockyard overlooking the Naval Base - the wind is whipping up the sea into a frenzy so a trip on Friday would depend on the weather.
