Rain is on its way!
« on: February 26, 2010, 01:09:42 PM »
The forcast has been getting increasingly better this week and now sunday is looking very promising for dartmoor. Anyone interested? High loop run? (We only have two weeks, 14th march until we are "not allowed to paddle the dart till next season"!)

The Thames is also near flood levels so all the the weirs are working nicely (Dave, Hurley?)

I'm in, I rather fancy Withypool - Dulverton, now there is no access agreement, or Dart if only one carload.

I posted dart because of the car issue. Im happy to do barle (is it not tarr steps - dulverton - exbridge?) Any other takers, we could do with atleast two more if we're doing an alternative river!

Car issue will probably select the dart, 2 runs, ease of shuttle. I suggested the Barle as there is a point of view, that as there is no access agreement at the mo, the section from withypool to tarr steps is tentatively open(cover your ears nigel), however RCC are there next weekend, we could either solo if we had enuf or join them. Either way as long as its on water (3 and below), I'm in.

I will come.

A303 is closed at the moment, so journey will take longer. Diversion is via Shaftesbury and Yeovil. Probably best to meet in Salisbury.

Does that mean you'll pick me up on the way through (a plan is slowly emerging)

If your heading along the A30 through shaftesbury i might just as well wait at home as i live on the A30! Near Barford St. Martin if you want to look it up.

We may be able to recruit one or two at the pool tonight? (pete, chris?) Unless Gordon has his number for prior warning? I might give pete a bell later.

The title of the thread was wrong - not much rain on Dartmoor.

A low run on the Walkham and Tavy, but I enjoyed it. I was planning to paddle the slot having regreted walking it last time. However, there was not much water, and having watched Kev roll, Pete seemed as though he only just got away with it, plus somebody from another party had trouble, I decided I would wait until there was more water.

Thanks Pete and Kev.

If I had trouble, those rocks looked as though they would have been very close to my face.

You will appreciate that Kev and Pete don't have much to worry about, but I can not afford to spoil my good looks by smashing my face againt the rocks. :P :P :P :-X

That is my excuse for walking it.

Nigel

A much more sensible approach to kayaking than these youngsters, IMHO.
